I think it offers a nice balance of control and spin. I actually wonder why HEAD stopped producing the 18×19 string pattern for the retail market. Both of these characteristics make it work better for my game than a HEAD Extreme for example. The swing weight makes it more stable than most tweeners and the string pattern of 18×19 instead of 16×19 gives it a bit better directional control and a lower launch angle. How does it play?Īs you can see from the specs, this is a slightly beefier tweener racquet. Richard Gasquet uses that version, but I generally prefer standard length racquets. That one is 27,5 inches long, heavier and has a 16×19 string pattern. There is also an extended-length version of the LM Instinct MP called the XL Tour. Head size: 100 sq inches / 645 sq cm Length: 27 inches / 68,6 cm Beamwidth: 23/25/21 mm Weight: 300 grams unstrung / 10.6 oz String pattern: 18×19 Balance: 6 pts HL unstrung / 32,5 cm Swingweight: 330 (strung!) Stiffness rating: 66 RA unstrung I always preferred the Radical for its more controlled response, but now that I am looking for more power and spin, the LM Instinct is a great choice with its more tweener-friendly specs.

Both the LM Radical and the LM Instinct are classics today and used under various paint jobs on the pro tours (the LM Prestige was a bit too flexible for my liking). But the technology made the racquet play really stable and HEAD had already mastered the “feel” department so this was a test to see if they could make their racquets crisper and more powerful.įor most players, it worked well.

When HEAD released the HEAD LM Instinct MP, it was a bestseller despite that those metal ridges on the racquet might look a bit weird to some. Like the HEAD LM Instinct MP.Īs most loyal readers of Tennisnerd know, I have a weak spot for Liquidmetal (LM) technology. Tell me your experiences and any comparisons you might have to the new 2020 Prestige MP.What are truly classic racquets? I believe it applies to racquets that are still great 15-20 years after their release. I didn't really test it out much in this department. Who here has seen the Gillette commercial with the Federer trick shot serve? Yeah, that was me tonight. I'm sure that when it's strung (low tension) with poly it'll increase the launch angle a little and improve spin dramatically.

I don't have problems accessing spin with my Six.One 18×20 so I won't judge the LM on it's spin capabilities until i have a full bed of poly in it (tomorrow).Īside from all that, I rate it highly for ground strokes. I rarely use multifilaments but when I do it always quickly makes a big hole, but after playing for 1 hour with these strings, just straight lines. The string bed felt firm but looked aged, so I figured its probably been sitting in a closet for a long time. I saw quickly after unboxing it there was bad notching on the strings. The seller (of the racket) told me it was strung at 23kg (50lbs) with Babolat Addiction. But I wont fault the racket for that just yet and here's why. Launch angle was quite low even for a 18×20 but I think that had a lot to do with the way it was strung (which you'll read about below).

Returning serve with a lightning bolt down the line was too easy on both forehand and backhand. "A low powered racket" was what I was expecting.I was shooting lazers. The LM in my opinion was by far the most playable. Others I've tried are the i.Prestige MP and the 2014 Prestige Graphene MP. I'm trying out some of the Prestige line before investing in the 2020 model (yes I know its completely different, blah blah blah) because there is Buckley's chance I'll get to demo the newest version. It was used but in quite good condition considering its age.
